   a) No, a company or individual outside of St. Kitts & Nevis may own a ship.
   b) However, St. Kitts & Nevis companies benefit from a reduced Registration Fee when a ship is first registered with SKANReg
2. How do I register my ship with SKANReg?
   a) Download the Application Forms on this website and submit them to the  International Registrar, a Maritime Registrar, the Department of Maritime Affairs or a Service Provider.  Details of all these offices are on this website.
3. Do I need a Maritime Resident Agent in St. Kitts & Nevis?
   a) Yes, a Maritime Resident Agent is require for each and every ship registered with SKANReg.
4. How can I find details of Maritime Resident Agents?
   a) Details of Service Providers who can act as a Maritime Resident Agent are on this website OR
   b) The International Registrar can provide information.
5. Are there any age restrictions for ships?
   a) There are no age restrictions, but vessels over 20 years old may be subject to an inspection by a surveyor from SKANReg, before being accepted for registration.  The fee for this survey is paid by the shipowner.
6. Do I need insurance?
   a) Yes, Insurance/P+I cover for third party claims is required.
7. Which Classification Societies can I use?
   Any member of IACS, plus Hellenic Register of Shipping &International Register of Shipping.
8. Can I have a Mortgage on my ship?
   a) Yes.  Our Mortgage legislation is based on British legislation and has been accepted by all major lenders involved in shipping finance.

9. Can I Bareboat Charter my ship into or out of SKANReg?
